Why play Minnesota AAU Girls Basketball?

  • Play against Elite Competition - ALL 30 players in Minnesota's Class of 2014 that signed National Letters of Intent to play Division 1 basketball last fall played Minnesota AAU Basketball.

  • Exposure to College Coaches - our events are attended by coaches from virtually every D2, D3, NAIA, and JUCO program in the 5-state area.

  • Insurance - part of being an AAU member gets you sports accident insurance that can cover excess medical, integrated deductible, and dental costs. This covers both supervised practices and tournaments!

  • One Location for All Ages/Divisions - Our tournaments are not spread out all over the state on a particular weekend. Most of the time they are all at one location, and if not, they are at two sites are within a few miles of each other. You can easily watch your friends and relatives play at different age levels.

  • Opportunity to Travel - we have partnerships with multiple tournaments in both Wisconsin and Iowa. You can also attend AAU National Tournaments at ESPN/Disney Wide World of Sports in Orlando or in other locations all across the country!

  • Be a part of something bigger - Founded in 1888 to establish standards and uniformity in amateur sport, AAU is the nation-wide leader in youth sports. Join over 500,000 participants in 56 districts that cover our great nation.

  • State Championship Series - Each year, Minnesota AAU sponsors the State Prelims and State Championship. These tournaments happen the second weekend (Prelims) and third weekend (Championship) of May.  The Prelims are pool play, and that weekend seeds teams into the Championship weekend. Depending on your Prelims finish, you will either be placed in the D1 or D2 Championship Bracket at the State Tournament.  There is a seeding meeting prior to the Prelims to put teams into pools.

  • Minnesota AAU Summer Jam - The third event that is sponsored by Minnesota AAU is a huge regional event that is held in June, the third weekend after Memorial Day weekend.  This tournament typically attracts teams from MN, IA, WI, SD, ND, and NE.

  • Invitational Tournaments - To fill out local schedules, individual clubs host Invitational Tournaments throughout the spring and summer. Many of those are hosted on this site.  You can find others by visiting www.aausports.org and searching for Girls Basketball events in the area.
